Question

Explain dipole-dipole interaction with suitable example.

Open in App
Solution

  • The dipole dipole interactions arises when the partial positive charge of one molecule is attracted to the partial negative charge of another molecule. Therefore, dipole dipole interactions are inter molecular forces. Every polar molecule contains a dipole moment.
  • Example of a dipoledipole interaction can be seen in hydrogen chloride (HCl): the relatively positive end of a polar molecule will attract the relatively negative end of another HCl molecule.
