Question

Explain: Evaporation causes cooling

Open in App
Solution

Evaporation causes cooling:

  1. Evaporation is defined as the transformation of a liquid into vapour at any temperature below its boiling point.
  2. In this phenomenon in which only high-energy particles leave the liquid surface, leaving low-energy particles behind.
  3. So, the average molecular energy of the remaining particles left behind in the liquid state is lowered.
  4. Therefore there is a decrease in the part of the liquid that is left and hence, evaporation causes cooling.
  5. For example: If we sprinkle water on the roof after a sunny day then this will cool the roof.
