Explain four stored energies.

Open in App
Solution

Energy:

  1. The ability to do work by a body is called its energy. Energy is found in different ways.
  2. For example, the energy possessed by a body due to its position or motion is called mechanical energy.
  3. The energy that is stored in a different form in a body is called stored energy. There are different stored energies that are as follows:

a) Muscular Energy:

  1. The energy stored in the muscles of our body is called muscular energy.
  2. Muscular energy is obtained from the food we eat.
  3. When food is broken into smaller particles, chemical energy is released.
  4. This energy is stored in the muscles as muscular energy.

b) Chemical Energy:

  1. Chemical energy is the energy stored in molecular bonds.
  2. Molecular bonds are the forces that hold the molecules together.
  3. When a chemical substance undergoes a change, they release the energy stored in them.
  4. For example; The burning of coal produces chemical energy stored in it.

c) Magnetic Energy:

  1. A magnet exerts a force on iron objects and any other magnets.
  2. The energy stored in a magnet due to which it exerts a force on magnetic materials is called magnetic energy.
  3. Magnetic energy is used in lifting heavy iron objects and for medical purposes too.

d) Nuclear Energy:

  1. The energy stored in the nucleus of the atom is known as nuclear energy.
  2. When the nucleus of an atom splits or two different light nuclei combine, a large amount of energy is released.
  3. This energy is in the form of heat that can be utilized for the generation of electricity.
