Explain harvesting of water.

Open in App
Solution

Harvesting of water:

  • It is the collection of rainstorm-generated runoff from a particular area (a catchment) in order to provide water for human, animal, or crop use.
  • When it rains a lot, water pours into the streets, drains, and we can't use them.
  • Our goal is to collect this rainwater and store it for later use when we need it.
  • It is a solution to conserve depleting groundwater.

Process of rainwater harvesting:

  • Rainwater is collected through pipes from the roofs and verandas of buildings and redirected to tanks, cisterns, deep pits, aquifers, or a reservoir with percolation so that it seeps down and restores the groundwater.
  • It is a solution to conserve depleting groundwater.
