As one goes up in the altitude, the temperature drops. For every 1000 feet of ascent, one experience temperatures drop of about 4^o F. Cooler temperatures means less evaporation and therefore, the mountaintops generally experience snowfall.
In India, like every other region, the altitude affects the climate of an area. The mountains to the north, which have an average height of about 6,000 metres, experience frigid climatic conditions whereas the vast coastal area where the maximum elevation is about 30 metres, experience much warmer temperatures.
