Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

A rock is a naturally- formed solid, inorganic substance without a specific atomic structure or chemical composition. They are the naturally occurring aggregate of solid mineral matter that constitutes a significant part of the earth's crust. Hence it can be said that they are made up of minerals. Some mineral are olivine , feldspar , pyroxene , mica etc. There are 3 types of rocks:-
  1. Igneous rock:- It is formed either underground or aboveground. When magma (melted rock) cools and become solid ,rocks are formed and so when lava of volcanoes cools and solidifies give rise to igneous rocks.
  2. Metamorphic rocks:- Rocks which are once igneous, and sedimentary change due to heat and pressure leads to formation of metamorphic rocks.
  3. Sedimentary rocks:- Rocks that are formed through the earth's broken or eroded sediments that collect at bottom of lakes, oceans and rivers and with time form sedimentary rocks.
