Explain how chloride ion is formed?

Open in App
Solution

Formation of chloride ion:

  1. A chloride ion is a negatively charged ion i.e. anion, which has one unit of negative charge.
  2. A chlorine atom (Cl) gains one electron in the outermost shell and forms a chloride ion (Cl-).
  3. The reaction is as follows: Cl+e-Cl-

Thus, a chloride ion is formed when a chloride atom gains one electron.
