Solution

Ultrasound:

A sound-wave image processing test that creates an image of organs, tissues, and other components throughout the body is called ultrasound.

Uses of ultrasound:

  1. Ultrasound imaging creates images of the interior of the body by using sound waves.
  2. It's being used to aid in the diagnosis of internal organ discomfort, edema, and inflammation.
  3. Ultrasounds could help doctors identify abnormalities throughout the heart, blood arteries, liver, pancreas, and kidneys.
  4. An ultrasound scan could be used to keep track of an unborn child.

Defects in metal blocks using ultrasound:

  1. Defects in metal blocks prevent ultrasound from passing through them and cause them to be reflected. This property is used to detect flaws in metal blocks.
  2. When the metal is perfect, the ultrasonic waves travel as expected and hence are detected on the other end. For a metal with a defect, the waves are reflected back and hence don't reach the other end. When no detection is received, it can be concluded that the metal has a defect.
  3. Ultrasound is sent via one extremity of a metal block, whereas detectors are attached to the other. The faulty section of the metal block prevents ultrasound from passing through all of it. As a consequence, the detector would not identify it.

Therefore, defects in metal blocks can be detected using ultrasound.
