Question

Explain how forests prevent floods.

Open in App
Solution

- Forest acts as a natural absorber of rainwater and allows it to seep. The roots of the plants absorb water and help in seeping of water into the soil. It helps maintain the water table throughout the year.
- When rainwater falls, it does not fall directly on the ground. It falls on the leaves of tall plants and then it drips slowly on the forest ground.
- This way, the water does not stagnate in the forest and the forests help in preventing floods.
