Question

Explain how Heisenberg's uncertainity principle is contradictory to Bohr's theory. Explain the validity of Heinsenberg's uncertainity principle to larger objects with reason.

Open in App
Solution

According to Bohr's model electron revolve around nucleus in certain orbit with radial distance r from nucleus and velcity v. That's why the momentum and position e are precisely known at all times which contradicts the Heinsenberg uncertainity principle that it is impossible to measure simultaneously the exact position and exact momentum of body as small as an electron i.e. one of them is uncertain.
Heinsenberg consider the wave as a particle. So, it can be applied for any particles large or small but it will have significance for microscopic particles as value of planck's constant is very small i.e. 6.626×1034
Δx=h2mv×π
If m=100kg Δx will come out to be in range of 1030 meters which is so insignificant
