1. Usually, bar magnets are stored as pairs with unlike poles close to each other and separated by a small wooden piece between them.
2. Two pieces of soft iron called keepers are kept at the two ends of the bar magnet.
3. A horseshoe magnet is preserved by keeping a single keeper at its two poles.

The necessity to store magnets properly:

1. When magnets are kept for a long time leaving the magnetic poles free or exposed, they slowly lose their magnetic properties.
2. Therefore, magnets have to be preserved to prevent the loss of magnetic properties.
