Open in App
Solution

The nervous system is a complex collection of nerves and specialized cells known as neurons that transmit signals between different parts of the body. Messages are carried from one part of the body to another, as tiny electrical or chemical signals. Sensory neurons, relay neurons and motor neurons of the somatic nervous system together transmit signals between the central nervous system (spinal cord and brain) and the various receptors and effectors of different organs and organ systems like muscle and skin receptors. Body processes, such as blood pressure and the rate of breathing, that work without conscious effort are controlled by the autonomous nervous system. The somatic and autonomous nervous systems function together to help the different organs in the body to work together.
