1. Roasting - sulphides are converted to oxides when heated in presence of oxygen.
2. Calcination - carbonates are converted to oxides when heated in absence of oxygen.

Metal N which is higher up in the reactivity series can obtained by:-
Electrolytic refining- refining of metals by the process of electrolysis.
