Explain how the phenomenon of echo is put to use by bats and dolphins in nature.

  1. An echo is a reflection of sound that is heard by the observer with some delay after the sound is released from the source.
  2. This delay in reaching sound is directly proportional to the distance of the echoing surface from the observer point.
  3. In nature, some animals use this echo to locate and catch their prey.
  4. These animals are Bats, dolphins, whales, Madagascar birds, etc.
  5. Bats or dolphins produces ultrasonic sound toward their prey.
  6. The ultrasonic sound wave returns in the form of an echo and is then sensed by the animal.
  7. This helps the animals to catch their prey.
