Question

explain in brief the subjective nature of loudness and objective nature of intensity .

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Sound intensity is objective in nature because it's just a measure of the sound power per unit area.

Loudness is subjective in nature because it has to take into account the sensitivity of the ear and its different responses to different frequencies in the sound. A sound with a frequency of 45 kHz would have no "loudness", since our ears don't respond to that frequency at all. But it would still have intensity, because the sound is still carrying energy.
