Solution
Relative density is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a standard, usually water for a liquid or solid, and air for a gas.
The relative density of a substance is a characteristic property of the substance that remains the same under specific conditions. The relative density of water is 1. If a substance has a relative density that is greater than 1, it will sink in water and if its relative density is less than 1, it will float in water.
Therefore, when the density of the object is less than the density of the liquid it is floating, the object will float and when the density of the object is more than the density of the liquid it is floating, the object will sink.
