Land degradation is a gradual wearing down or quality loss of land. It is a destructive process which has now become a matter of serious concern. Land degradation can be understood in five points which are given below:

  1. Loss of quality of land when exposed to waste and dump sites for prolonged time period .

  2. Due to overgrazing when land loses the green cover and become exposed to agents of nature, it gets blown or washed away making it undulated.

  3. ​Land degradation also happens when agriculture becomes a source of exploitation and loses idea of sustainability. Land has a higher chance of becoming barren.

  4. Land degradation also happens due to natural factors of earthquakes and volcanism making it unusable.
  5. Lastly, human factors such as massive industrialisation and urbanization is also responsible for land degradation and loss of quality soil also.
