Question

Explain lateral inversion.

Open in App
Solution

  1. When an object is positioned in front of a flat mirror, the left side of the image indicates to be the right side of the object, and the left side of the image seems to be the right side of the image.
  2. This shifts the sides of an object and its mirror images are known as lateral inversion.
  3. Example: Images formed by plane mirrors are laterally inverted, i.e., the left side comes to the right and the right comes to the left.
