Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

Poetic devices are used in a poem to make it attractive, interesting and rhythmic. The mood of the poem can be dramatically heightened by using these devices.
Some of the commonly used devices are:-
  • Simile- It is used to compare two things by using as or like. For eg.- He is as strong as a lion.
  • Metaphor- Direct comparison is shown by using this device without using as or like. Eg- She is all states, and all princes.
  • Alliteration- Repetition of the consonant sound.
  • Imagery- It is used to create images in the reader's mind. Eg- A saw a crowd of golden daffodils.
  • Onomatopoeia- It is used to imitate sound. Eg- I babble on the pebbles.
  • Personification- When a non living object is given a human identity. Eg- Sun smiled down on the people.
