Explain Neutralisation with an example.
When definite amounts of acid and base are mixed, they neutralize each other forming salt and water along with the evolution of heat. This is called Neutralisation.
For example, hydrochloric acid and potassium hydroxide neutralize each other forming potassium chloride and water. The reaction can be represented as:
Hydrochloric acid + Potassium hydroxide → Potassium chloride + Water + Heat
