Explain the Positive and Negative impact of Green revolution.
Positive Impact of Green Revolution:
1. The green revolution led to high productivity of crops through adapted measures, such as (a) increased area under farming, (b) double-cropping, which includes planting two crops rather than one, annually, (c) adoption of HYV of seeds, (d) highly increased use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides
2. It improved the economic conditions of farmers, and their standard of living greatly improved.
3. It reduced the import of food grains.
4. The Green Revolution has brought farming to a massive scale, This increases the yield and the supply becomes more available. Thus, the demand for the crops also increases. This helps to lower the price
5. Higher-yielding seeds decreased the time taken for a crop to be grown and also increased the number of crops.
Negative Impact of Green Revolution
1. The use of HYV seeds on the same land decreases soil fertility which also decreases the number of nutrients in a crop.
2. In India, the Green Revolution technology has given birth to regional disparities among some states. For example, regions such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh are the most affected areas.
3. The Green Revolution came up with the idea of using various types of pesticides and chemical fertilizers which increase the impact of health on the human body.
