Question

explain process of preparing wool in steps

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

Here are the steps of preparation of wool.

1. Wool from the sheep (known as fleece) is sheared or removed from the sheep once in a year when temperature rises.
2. After this, wool (fleece) removed from the sheep is graded according to its fibre thickness and the amount of debris in it. At this stage wool is called as a grease wool.
3. After this, grease wool is washed by using a process known as scouring. In this process wool is blended together and goes through huge shakers and scouring tubes that contain soap and water. This process remove grease, vegetable matter and other impurities from the wool.
4. Last step is to straighten each fibre of the wool. For this wool is passed through wire rollers to straighten out the fibres in one direction. The rollers vary in diameter and turn at different speeds in order to create a thin web of aligned wool fibres.
