Question

Explain rate of reaction with its mathematical forms.
Rate (Velocity) of reaction:

Open in App
Solution

It is the ratio of change in concentration to a unit interval of time.
Mathematically: Let us consider a general reaction, A (reactant) B (products)
Now rate (velocity) of reaction =d[A]dt=+d[B]dt=±dcdt
Where dc= change in concentration : dt= change in time.
-ve sign = forward reaction where the concentration of reactant decreases.
+ve sign = backward reaction where the concentration of reactant increases.
Meaning of [A]= - concentration of reaction A
[B]= - concentration of Product B.
