According to the law, only 10% of energy is transferred from one trophic level to another and 90% of the energy remains at the former trophic level for its needs like respiration and digestion processes.
For example, if a plant produces 100 units of energy, 10% of it will be transferred to its primary consumers i. e.10 units of energy, and 10% of the energy of the primary consumer is transferred to the secondary consumers i. e. 1 unit of energy only.
