Question

Explain some cases when a body possessing both kinetic and potential energy contradicts the Law of conservation of mechanical energy.

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

THe law of conservation of the energy is never contradicted.

Consider a case in which an object is placed at an height.
At the height at rest, the body possess potential energy.
When the object falls, the velocity of the object slowly starts increasing and the kinetic energy also starts increasing.
As the height of the object decreases, the potential energy starts decreasing and the proportional amount of the kinetic energy increases.

Thus, the total energy of the system always remains, constant.
