A type of disease that affects the lungs and other parts of the respiratory system.

Some common respiratory diseases are:

Asthma

  1. Asthma is also called a chronic respiratory disease by doctors.
  2. It causes many breathing difficulties such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath.

Causative agents: allergies, such as to pollen, dust mites, animal fur, or feathers. smoke, fumes, and pollution.

Symptoms:

The most common symptoms of an asthma attack are:

  1. Wheezing
  2. Pressure on the chest/ tightness
  3. Rapid breathing
  4. Breathing problems
  5. Persistent coughing
  6. Difficulty in talking

Pneumonia

  1. It is a highly contagious lung infection characterized by inflammation of air sacs in one or both lungs.
  2. The air sacs get filled with fluid or pus resulting in fever, chills, cough, and breathing difficulty.

Causative agents: Streptococcus pneumoniae

Symptoms:

  1. Coughing with greenish, yellow, and sometimes blood in the mucus.
  2. Shortness of breath.
  3. Fever with chills.
  4. Sweating.
  5. Loss of appetite.
  6. Nausea.
  7. Chest pain.

Common cold

  1. The cold or common cold is a disease diagnosed with a headache, runny nose, scratchy throat, fever, and non-stop sneezing.
  2. It is a viral infectious disease of the upper respiratory tract, which primarily affects the nose and sometimes sinuses, ears, and bronchial tubes.

Causative agents: Rhinovirus

Symptoms:

  1. Symptoms of a cold usually peak within 2 to 3 days and can include:
  2. Sneezing.
  3. Stuffy nose.
  4. Runny nose.
  5. Sore throat.
  6. Coughing.
  7. Mucus dripping down your throat (post-nasal drip)
  8. Watery eyes.
