Sexually Transmitted Diseases or STDs are infections that are transmitted from one person to another through sexual contact. There are a number of STDs that are commonly seen. Few such as, Syphilis caused by 𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘶𝘮, Gonorrohea caused by 𝘕𝘦𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘦, Trichomoniasis caused by 𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘴 𝘷𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴, Genital herpes caused by 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘦𝘹 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘹 virus, Chlamydia caused by 𝘊𝘩𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘺𝘥𝘪𝘢 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘴, HIV/AIDS caused by Human Immunodeficiency virus, Hepatitis-B caused by Hepatitis-B virus, Human Papilloma virus(HPV) infection etc.
STDs can be prevented by avoiding sexual contact with multiple/unknown sexual partners, following safe sexual practices such as using condoms, being monogamous to one uninfected partner, getting tested for infections periodically and taking appropriate vaccination for diseases such as HPV and Heptatitis B.
