Question

Explain symbiotic nitrogen fixation.

Open in App
Solution

Nitrogen fixation is the conversion of atmospheric nitrogen to Ammonia(NH3) Symbiotic Nitrogen fixation is the process of N2 fixation in presence of microbes. Symbiotic Nitrogen fixation generally takes place commonly in legumes as non-legumes plants. Roots of leguminous plants like Alfa Alfa associate with help of microbes like Rhizobium in case of leguminous N2 fixation. They associate through the help of nodules which are small outgrowths present on the roots. Microbes like Frankia helps to fix nitrogen in non-legumes. Rhizobium and Frankia can easily fix Nitrogen in symbiotic association.
