Elements are classified depending on the difference in their chemical properties. Chemical properties of an element depend on the electronic configuration. If the element has 1, 2 or 3 electrons, it behaves like a metal since it has a tendency to lose electrons. If on the other hand it has 4, 5, 6 or 7 electrons, it is considered a non metal as it accepts electrons to attain stability. On basis of electronic configuration, elements are classified as:
