Cell theory:
- The cell theory is a scientific theory, that living organisms are made up of cells, and that they are the basic structural/organizational unit of all organisms.
- The theory was first formulated in the mid-nineteenth century this theory was first given by Theodor Schwann.
- This theory was later modified by Virchow.
Basic tenets of cell theory:
- All living things are made up of one or more cells.
- The cell is the structural and functional unit of all living things.
- Cells come from pre-existing cells through the process of division.
- All cells are the same in regard to chemical composition.
