The cells responsible for the conduction of food are phloem. It conducts food material from leaves to various parts of the plant through different cells.

  1. Sieve tubes - elongated cells with perforated ends help in the transportation of substances from one cell to the adjacent cell.
  2. Companion cells - living cells help the sieve cells in maintaining the control of transportation through sieve tubes.
  3. Phloem parenchyma - living cells that help in storage
  4. Phloem fibers - elongated tapering dead cells which give mechanical support.
