Solution
Centrifugation:
It is a method of separating particles suspended in a liquid.
Sometimes, the solid particles in a solid are too small and can pass through the filter paper. These solid particles can be separated with the help of a machine which is known as a centrifugation machine.
In this process, the particles which are denser will be forced to move to the bottom and the particles which are lighter will stay at the top when spun.
Two primary conditions for using this method :
The test tubes which are placed in the machine are rotated at a very high speed.
One material is heavier than the other.
Application of centrifugation:
It is used in dairies and homes to separate butter from cream. For this cream is centrifuged and butter being lighter floats at the top.
It is also used to squeeze out water from wet clothes in washing machines.
It is used in diagnostic laboratories for various blood and urine tests.
