Question

Explain the change in the hybridization of (SiH3)2O.

Open in App
Solution

The hybridization of (SiH3)2O has been changed from sp3 to sp2.

Si has vacant d orbital which can take part in back bonding, i.e, PΠdΠ back bonding by accepting back the lone pair of electrons of O atoms to its vacant d orbital.

As a result, it hybridization changes from sp3 to sp2.
