Explain the classification of hormones in detail.

Hormones are classified on the basis of their chemical structure. They are as follow:

1) Amine hormones: They are formed from amino acids and some modified groups. Examples include epinephrine, thyroxine.

2) Peptide hormones: They contain short chains of linked amino acids. Examples include oxytocin, vasopressin.

3) Protein hormones: They contain long chains of linked amino acids. Examples include human growth hormones such as GTH, TTH and STH.

4) Steroids hormones: They are formed from cholesterol. Examples include testosterone, progesterone, aldosterone

5) Fatty acid hormones: They are formed from fatty acid derivatives. Example include prostaglandin.
