Open in App
Solution

The kingdom monera consists of organisms that are unicellular, prokaryotic, microscopic and the most ancient organisms.

The kingdom Monera or prokaryota is divided into two kingdoms. These are-

  1. Archaebacteria- Archaebacteria are organisms that are autotrophic and derive energy from the oxidation of chemicals for their metabolic activities. Though these are autotrophs, only a few photosynthesize. eg- halophiles, thermophiles etc.
  2. Eubacteria - These bacteria possess an outer cell wall that surrounds the plasma membrane. The plasma membrane surrounds the cytoplasm with ribosomes. These bacteria do not possess membrane-bounded organelles such as mitochondria, chloroplasts, etc. There is circular DNA coiled in one region of the cell. Example- Lactobacillus, E. coli.
