1. Begum Rokeya (1880-1932) was a prominent Bengali writer, social activist and pioneer of women's education in India.
2. In her novels, poems, short stories and essays, she argued for equal treatment of men and women.
3. She believed that education is the foremost requirement for women's liberation. She established the first school for Bengali muslim girls in Calcutta.
4. In 1916, she founded the Muslim Women’s Association to promote women’s education and employment.
5. Till the end of her life, she was engaged in debates and conferences regarding the advancement of women.
