Cross-section of leaf:

  1. Cuticle: The thin waxy layer that can control or prevent any loss of water from the leaf is called cuticle.
  2. Epidermis: The outermost later of the leaf which ​is present both on the upper and lower surface of the leaves is called epidermis.
  3. Mesophyll cells: This is the photosynthetic tissue of the leaf is made up of palisade and spongy parenchyma.
  4. Stomata: The small opening present around the epidermis which allows the exchange of gasses and also removal of excess water through transpiration.
  5. Vascular tissues: The vascular tissue is present in the veins of the leaves which is made up of xylem and phloem.
