Explain the difference between a Departmental store and Chain store.

Differences between Departmental stores and Chain stores are explained below :

(a) Location-A departmental store is located at central place to attract a large floating population whereas chain stores are located at a number of populous localities for approaching a large number of customers.

(b) Range of products-Departmental stores carry a wide variety of products of different types to satisfy all the needs of customers under one roof whereas the multiple stores aims to satisfy the requirements of customers relating to a specified range of their products only.

(c) Services offered-A departmental stores provide maximum services to their customers like restrooms, restaurants and so on, whereas chain stores provide very limited services confined to guarantees and repairs of their sold out items.

(d) Pricing-The departmental stores do not have uniform pricing policy for all the departments whereas the multiple chains sell goods at fixed prices and maintain uniform pricing policies for all the stores.
