Explain the differences between homogenous and heterogenous mixture.
Homogenous mixture: A mixture of two or more substances in which solute particles are uniformly spread throughout the solvent.
Heterogenous mixture: A mixture in which two or more substances are spread in non-uniform composition throughout the solvent.
S.No. | Homogenous mixture | Heterogeneous mixture |
1 | It has uniform composition .i.e, is the particles of solute are spread uniformly throughout the solvent. | It has non-uniform composition .i.e, the particles of solute are spread unevenly throughout the solvent. |
2 | It has only one phase. | There are more than two or more phases. |
3 | There is no physical method for separation. | It can be separated physically using various methods like hand picking, evaporation, boiling, etc. |
4 | Example - alcohol and water. | Example - sodium chloride and sand. |
