The most important characteristics of the Dravidian style of temples are as follows:
1) A sanctum with four sides.
2) The tower or the vimana is that of a pyramid shape. Often the vimana also has many storeys.
3) Pillars too are an important aspect. The mandapa or main sanctum usually is a multi-pillared hall.
4) Gopuram or ornate gateways is another essential feature.
