Instructions:
- Introduction.
- Convergent, Divergent, and Transform boundaries.
Solution:
Lithospheric plate is a massive, irregularly-shaped slab of solid rock, generally composed of both continental and oceanic lithosphere.
These plates are not static, and they move in different directions due to internal forces.
Because of their movement, these plates create three different types of margins.
a) Convergent boundaries
They move towards each other. The dense oceanic plate subducts under a less dense continental plate. This leads to in the formation of folds mountains. Example: The Himalayas
b) Divergent boundaries
They move away from each other. There is the eruption of molten rock from the crack, which leads to the formation of a fault. Example: Mid-oceanic ridge
c) Transform boundaries
When two plates slide past each other. They cause earthquakes. Example: San Andreas fault
