• Quarrying:
  • The process of digging out minerals that lie near the surface is called quarrying.
• Drilling:
  • In drilling, deep wells are bored to extract minerals which are deep inside the earth. Drilling is also used for extracting​ petroleum and natural gas that occurs deep inside the earth​.
• Mining:
  • The method used to extract minerals from rock buried under the earth's surface is known as mining.​ It is classified into open-cast mining and shaft mining​. Minerals that lie at shallow depths are taken out through open-cast mining​. In shaft mining, deep bores or shafts are made to extract mineral deposits that lie at great depths.
