Solution:
The word ‘citizen’ is derived from ‘city’. In most cases, it refers to an individual who is native to an area or a region.

A citizen of a country is a person who legally belongs to it. They also enjoy certain rights and protection from the government.
  1. By Birth -
    • A person who is born in India becomes an Indian citizen naturally.
    • Both the parents of the child must be Indian citizens by the time of the birth.
  2. By Descent
    • A child born in a foreign country with at least one Indian parent becomes an Indian citizen by descent.
    • The parents must register the child’s information in an Indian consulate within a year of the birth.
  3. By Registration
    • A person of Indian origin, residing in India for at least seven years can become an Indian citizen via registration.
    • If a foreigner marries an Indian, they can become a citizen after living in India for a certain amount of time.
  4. By naturalisation
    • A foreigner can become an Indian citizen if they do not belong to a state where Indians are prevented from becoming citizens by naturalisation.
    • The person needs to surrender their citizenship of the other country.
