Rivers have a significant role in making up civilisations. The African continent is also blessed with some of the most famous rivers in the world, adding to the continent’s geographical diversity. Africa has the longest River in the world .it is also the largest river in Africa. It is called the father of African rivers. And has a length of 6650 kilometers. It provides water for cultivation in Egypt. And that’s why Egypt is called the Gift of Nile. The river Nile finally drains into the Mediterranean Sea.
The second longest and largest river in Africa is the Congo river. It is about 4700kms long. It flows through west and central Africa and drains into the Atlantic Ocean.
The third longest river in Africa is the Niger - one on the western side of Africa. It is about 4184 km long.
It originates in the highlands of Guinea and finally drains into the Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean.
Zambezi river is the fourth longest river in Africa. It is also called southern Africa’s rivers of life. It is about 3540 kms long. It rises in the north-western of Zambia and finally drains into the Indian Ocean.
