The extent of the damage produced by radiations depends on the energy and type of radiations. Radiation sickness is the cumulative effect of all this damage on a human body thats been bombarded with radiation. Ionization radiation comes in the three flavors: alpha particles, beta particles and gamma rays. Alpha particles can be inhaled or ingested, usually in the form of radon gas.
