Question

Explain the federal and non federal features of Indian constitution (point wise).

Open in App
Solution

The main federal feature of the Indian constitution is the sharing of power between centre and states. There are separate lists of subjects over which the centre and state governments are responsible.

The main non federal feature of the Constitution is that there are also concurrent subjects over which both the centre and states can legislate, but over which the centre's laws prevail in case of any conflict. Further, all residual powers lie with the centre. The central government can also dismiss a state government.
