Solution
a) When a fresh fire is started under chimney, it smokes because during start of fire wood or coal, contains hydrocarbons which are volatile; during that time temperature is 149oC or approx. and after sometime when hydrocarbons evaporate, there is no smoke.
b) Small holes are provided at bottom of chimney in oil lamp so that oxygen can get to the flame in plenty amount that helps in combustion and give better flames.
c) During the day, the surface heats and during night it cools. Solar heating of Earth's surface is uneven because land heats faster than water and this causes air to warm, expand and rise overland while it cools and sinks over cooler water surfaces.
