Explain the following:
Concentrated nitric acid appears yellow when it is left standing in a glass bottle.

The pure nitric acid is colourless conc nitric acid undergoes decomposition as it is very unstable to heat. On decomposition they form reddish brown nitrogen dioxide gas which when dissolved in the acid appears yellow in colour.
