Solution

Respiration:

Respiration is the process of the breakdown of sugar into carbon dioxide and water and energy.

Respiration in roots:

  1. The roots of the plant take the oxygen required for respiration from the air present in the soil.
  2. The air gets diffused from the soil into the root hairs and reaches all other cells of the root.
  3. Carbon dioxide released moves out through the same roots by the process of diffusion.
