Explain the formation of Himalayas.

Open in App
Solution

Instructions:
  • Explain the formation of Himalayas.(2M)

  • Correlate the Himalayas formation process with a fold mountain.(1.5M)

  • Correlate the timeline of Himalayas formation with a young mountain.(1.5M)

Solution:

The himalayan mountain range was formed due to the collision of two tectonic plates, namely the Eurasian plate and the Indo-Australian plate, just a few million years ago.

When a mountain range is formed due to the collision of two tectonic plates, they are called fold mountains.

And since the himalayan mountain range was formed just a few million years ago, they are known as young mountains.

The above two reasons explain why the Himalayan mountains are called young fold mountains.
